Racing into Philadelphia
At The Overlook, we have plenty of active residents that love to use the running and biking paths in the nearby parks. With lush scenery and plenty of different routes to explore, it’s no wonder that our neighborhood is popular for outdoor exercise.
Have you been training up over the summer? If your endurance is up to the test, you should check out the Rock ‘N Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon, benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, at Fairmount Park on Sunday, September 15th!
Head to Eakins Oval in Fairmount Park for a start time of 7:30am – and be ready to run! But don’t worry if you’re not in quite the shape you were hoping to be in by race day. In addition to all the Gatorade Endurance Formula - a sports drink that contains nearly twice the sodium and three times the potassium of traditional Gatorade to keep you fueled – you can drink, Science in Sport is going to supply its isotonic gels for quick hydration along the scenic course.
By the time you finish, you, the local bands playing along the race route, and the designated cheer squads will all be ready for your complimentary beer and the finish line festival! All participants are awarded a medal for completing the run, along with a t-shirt, and a gear bag to keep it all together while you celebrate your big accomplishment. And if you signed up for either the Bronze or Silver heroes fundraising registration upgrades, you can walk away with other cool mementos and the satisfaction of meeting an impressive fundraising goal.
If you’re a runner, or know someone who is, you’ll want to plan on spending your morning cheering on the East Falls community!
The Rock ‘N Roll Marathon Series
Using music as a motivational tool, the Rock ‘N Roll Marathon Series rolls into cities across the country spreading the endorphin high that comes with a great run. And with more than 28 destination events around the world, and 500,000 runners in counting joining in, the events started to grow into outdoor festivals, complete with live bands, cheering sections, concerts, and charity partners like St. Jude’s. In fact, since its inception in 1998, the Rock ‘N Roll Marathon Series has helped those charity partners raise more than $300 million for a wide variety of notable causes.
Join your neighbors from The Overlook in running this amazing course, or support the locals and visitors who turn up just for the event! And for more details on upcoming opportunities and news, keep an eye on our neighborhood recommendations.
