Greene Street Friends School
Found in Germantown, and only 2.4 miles from The Overlook, Greene Street Friends School is a coeducational establishment that currently serves 320 students spread out from pre-kindergarten to the eighth grade. The school operates under the Green Street Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. The curriculum is a well-rounded one that covers everything from academic to socio-emotional development, and teaches the students to be more aware of the world in which they live. All applications must be sent in by January 15 for consideration.
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy
Until 2010, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH) was an all-boys school called the Chestnut Hill Academy. But when it merged with nearby Springside School, the establishments adopted parts of one another’s academic policies and created one student body. Those in the lower and middle grades are still separated into single-sex education classes, coming together in the fully coed upper school to finish out high school. In addition to standard academics, SCH, offers a wide range of athletics and arts programs. Parents can apply online, or speak with a school representative about options for their child’s attendance.
Friends Select School
If you want to be sure your child is on the college track from the start, then the Friends Select School, located in Center City, is likely your best option. Hosting all grade levels, from pre-kindergarten on through the completion of high school, this establishment is structured around college-preparatory ideals. And since it’s surrounded by the city of Philadelphia, students have the unique advantage of interacting with the “real” world on a daily basis. Prospective students are welcome to visit the campus, and to apply, parents can download admissions forms online.
The Crefeld School
Serving students from the seventh to the twelfth grade, the Crefeld School in Chestnut Hill strives to foster self-awareness and empathy among its pupils. On top of a prestigious academic tradition, the school is also focused on social justice, inclusion, and embracing individuality. And, students have the opportunity to be a part of Philadelphia’s culture of glass art in the school’s full-service hot glass studio!
