Kick Back and Enjoy the Gorgeous Parks Around East Falls
When was the last time you had a beer delivered straight to your hand as you lounged in the sunshine at your favorite park?
With Parks on Tap, this is a regular occurrence these days in the Philadelphia area! As the city’s very own traveling beer garden, Parks on Tap is first come, first serve, and offers locals the chance to indulge in their favorite brews without sacrificing their time in the outdoors. And for a community like The Overlook, where Fairmount Park – among so many others – is a popular hangout among residents, this kind of gathering is ideal for gaining a real appreciation for our beautiful surroundings.
When the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy, and FCM Hospitality came together and first initiated the Parks on Tap partnership in 2016, the goal was to bring the community together. And what better way to do that than to combine a love of good beer, great parks, and the city’s many burgeoning neighborhoods? Throughout the summer, the traveling beer garden visits various parks across Philadelphia offering more than just a cold beer and a reason to visit the park. A portion of all of the proceeds is funneled back into park maintenance services, so that residents can keep enjoying their public spaces, even after the main event is over.
What you can expect
When you attend one of the Parks on Tap events, you’ll want to arrive ready to sample the brews and check out the food trucks and vendors that join in on the fun. But note: this isn’t BYOB, and no prepared food is going to be allowed in the garden itself. The one exception to this rule is if you’ve brought a younger park lover or two with you.
In fact, once you step onto the scene, there isn’t much that Parks on Tap won’t have already thought of! In addition to beer on tap, delicious eats, and varieties of wine, the organizers make a point to provide plenty of seating options, like chairs and hammocks. Parents need not worry about their little ones losing interest; family-friendly activities, entertainment, and a festive outdoor environment are a must at each and every event. And Parks on Tap is a dog-friendly initiative: no need to leave your furry friend at home!
So where might you be able to find a Parks on Tap event? The best places to check up on any last-minute changes due to weather or scheduling conflicts are the initiative’s social media pages, but a basic outline of the summer is already available online. From Schuylkill Banks to our neighboring site, McMichael Park, Parks on Tap makes sure to cover all of Philadelphia’s most beautiful and accommodating spaces. Be sure to check one out when it heads toward our community!
