Fall in and around the Falls

Crisp mornings, changing leaves, and pumpkins as far as the eye can see – it’s definitely fall here in East Falls, and that means plenty of new things for The Overlook’s residents to do and see!

If you know where to look, there’s fun to be had for all ages in and around the neighborhood. Let us give you a few of our family-friendly staff favorites to start things off!

Jack’s Pumpkin Glow in Fairmount Park

Jack’s Pumpkin Glow in Fairmount Park is one annual event you and the rest of the family shouldn’t miss! Held on select dates through November 3, this autumnal wonderland is filled with expertly carved and illuminated jack-o-lanterns – you won’t find any bland or boring gourds here! Take a look at some of the demonstrations so you can create your own masterpiece, or just drink it all in with some seasonal treats to sweeten the deal.

Boo at the Zoo

Starting on the 12th, three of October’s weekends are getting wild! Check out the Boo at the Zoo celebrations at the Philadelphia Zoo, complete with trick-or-treating, a hay-bale maze, and even tours through the extinction graveyard. And don’t forget to come ready to sample seasonal treats and signature hot apple cider.

Witches and Wizards Weekend in Chestnut Hill

The Witches and Wizards Weekend is an enchanting experience for every member of the family, and this year’s two-day event includes a few new attractions! This October 18 and 19, take the Chestnut Hill Escape Room for a spin, or fly through the Wizarding Run between Quidditch tournaments, pub crawls for the adults, scavenger hunts, and more.

AIDS Walk Philly

You’re never too young to get involved in social and public health events – bring the entire family out for the annual AIDS Walk Philly and AIDS Run Philly on October 20, 7-10:30 a.m. Kicking things off at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the 5K fundraiser’s main goal is to bolster awareness and help eradicate the stigma of the disease, all while bringing the Philadelphia community together in support.

Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

A day out on the water might not seem like an autumnal activity to you, but here by the Schuylkill River, we love our dragon boats! Rowers of all skill levels are invited to take part in the two-day Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, this October 26 and 27. Spanning 2.5 miles along Kelly Drive and Boathouse Row, the race also provides a great view for spectators and friends of the competing rowers.
