Experience East Falls After Dark
When you move to a new place, there are certain things you want to go ahead and find in order to make yourself feel more at home: a dentist you can visit twice each year, a trusty mechanic, a go-to grocery store. But what about your after-work hotspots?
One of the perks of living at The Overlook is the peaceful respite from the bustling parts of Philadelphia, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of entertainment to be found nearby. In fact, East Falls is home to some of the more entertaining locales out there! Check out a few of our staff’s picks, but don’t be afraid to grab a few friends and go exploring one evening.
Tavern on Camac
If you like to join in on a good song, or even just listen, Tavern on Camac is the bar for you! Known for its tunes, this dance club and piano bar scene is ideal for lively nights out. Visit the tavern portion of the bar for its classic American bar menu, not to mention your favorite cocktails, local brews, and a wide selection of reasonably priced wines. Then, you and your friends can head over to the dance floor at Ascend, located just above the tavern, or check out any of the theme nights like Tuesday’s karaoke nights or Showtune Sundays.
There’s nothing quite like live music, and no one knows this better than the staff over at the Grape Room. This establishment is both a venue for performers and a night club, offering a little something for everyone who walks through its doors. Some of Philly’s funniest residents regularly join in Comedy Night, while every Monday night brings in the aspiring musical talent for Open Mic Night. Entry is permitted as long as you and your companions are at least 21 years old, and the bar features a wide selection of beers and other spirits to help supply you all with some liquid courage.
Feel like lounging with your friends? Woody’s has been a local hit since 1980, providing just the right space for lots of mingling, or for keeping to your circle for the evening. On the first floor, you’ll find a traditional bar, complete with a coffee room for quieter outings. But upstairs, you’re stepping into a full cyber bar with free internet booths and accommodations, perfect for students or self-starters who don’t necessarily have set hours and don’t want to sacrifice time out to get ahead. To top it off, Out Magazine has listed Woody’s among others in its “50 Greatest Gay Bars in the World” featured list! Don’t miss your chance to see what sets it apart from the rest.
